About VCRCA
The
Virginia Community
and Residential Care Association (VCRCA) was established in 1975 to represent
community-based, block grant programs. Initially, most of the members were group
home Directors with the primary purpose of the Association to share resources,
promote and develop needed services for troubled youth, and influence
legislation, policies and funding for VCRCA programs.
As client needs and
services began to change, the Association expanded its membership to include
staff from outreach programs, day treatment alternatives and other
community-based services for youth and their families. The Association has been
a strong advocate in developing local systems of care for troubled youth.
Association members have volunteered their time on numerous state and local
committees leading to improved services.
With the implementation
of the Comprehensive Services Act, the Association is now open to staff from all
programs providing services to youth and their families in community-based
settings and who subscribe to the goals and objectives as outlined in the
Association by-laws.
There are only two lasting bequests
we can hope to give our children.
One of these is roots, the other,
wings.
